Farm Girl Pizza Dough

Crispy edges, soft centre—this homemade crust is everything your pizza dreams are made of.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside
  • Simple ingredients, easy to make
  • A better-for-you twist on classic pizza night

Ingredients

Time: About 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours

Makes: 2 small pizzas (or 1 large), 2–4 servings

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 tsp salt

Toppings

Use any toppings you like such as pizza sauce, cheeses, vegetables, or proteins. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil if desired.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, maple syrup, and yeast. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt directly into the bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms. The dough should feel slightly sticky, not dry.
  3. Let the dough rest for 20 to 30 minutes to allow the flour to fully hydrate.
  4. Knead the dough for 1 to 2 minutes until smooth.

This can be done directly in the bowl, on a lightly floured surface, or using a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Cover and let rise for 60 minutes, or up to 2 hours, until slightly puffed.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently stretch it into your desired shape, keeping as much air in the dough as possible.
  7. Transfer the dough to a baking tray.
  8. Add your desired toppings.
  9. Lightly drizzle olive oil over the crust edges.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12 to 18 minutes, until the edges are golden and the toppings are cooked through.

Notes

  • A slightly sticky dough will give the best final texture
  • Use flour mix only for shaping, not to dry out the dough
  • A longer rise (closer to 2 hours) will give more flavour and a softer crumb
  • Drizzling olive oil on the crust helps create a golden, lightly crisp edge
